Local Tastings features alcoholic drinks produced by the Lignell & Piispanen distillery and winery in Kuopio. At the same time, you’ll hear how berry liqueur and other high-quality Finnish alcoholic drinks are made. The tastings are held in the magnificent Koivumäki Manor, which is still owned by the descendants of Gustav Ranin, who founded the distillery in 1852.

On the “Tasting Kuopio” sightseeing tour, you can enjoy local tastes at restaurants outside the city centre, such as the revolving Puijo Tower Restaurant and Saana on the shore of Lake Kallavesi. You can follow the footsteps of the legendary merchant Gustav Ranin on a tour of the Lignell & Piispanen distillery and hear more of his story at the historic Koivumäki Manor. On the bus tour, you’ll hear about Kuopio and its notable attractions such as Puijo, Lake Kallavesi and Saaristokaupunki – the town of islands – as well as the restaurants and their owners.
The tour starts at 11.30am from Kuopio City Hall, Tulliportinkatu 31, 70110 Kuopio. The bus tour takes about 4 hours.

The tour comprises three meals. Welcome drink and plate of local food at the Puijo Tower Restaurant, lunch at Saana, dessert and coffee at Koivumäki Manor. Non-alcoholic drinks. On the “Tasting Kuopio” food walk, you can enjoy local tastes. We will have an appetiser, main course, pre-dessert course and dessert at different restaurants located in historically interesting old buildings. At the same time, you can explore Kuopio city centre on foot and listen to stories about the buildings, notable local historical figures and the restaurants and their owners as told by the guide.
The guided food walk takes about 3 hours. Participants should gather at the Siskotyttö statue between the Kuopio Market hall and Scandic Atlas. (, 70110 Kuopio) at 4.30pm.
Booked food walks may start from elsewhere in the city centre.
A guided walk comprises four stops for food: a welcome drink in the unique setting of the cafe Tallikahvio; Savonian tapas at Kuopio’s historic Kummisetä Restaurant; fish soup (rated as the best in Finland) at the restaurant Isä Camillo; a cheeseboard at the music restaurant King’s Crown; and dessert and coffee at the cosy Kaneli Cafe. Alcoholic drinks are not included with the meals. The group will be led by a trained guide who will tell stories during the walk and the meals. Customers can buy wine and other drinks from the restaurants for an extra charge.
